Spinal Conditions
Discover the main spinal conditions managed by Dr Dimitriu, from diagnosis to treatment.
Lumbar Spine Conditions
The lumbar spine (lower back) is the most common site of spinal conditions. Back pain and sciatica are among the most frequent reasons for consultation.
Lumbar Disc Herniation
Protrusion of disc material compressing a nerve root, causing sciatica or cruralgia — a "burning" pain radiating down the leg.
Low Back Pain & Disc Disease
Chronic lower back pain linked to disc degeneration. The back feels "rusty" on waking and stiff after prolonged sitting.
Lumbar Spinal Stenosis
Progressive narrowing of the spinal canal compressing nerve roots. Reduced walking distance, relief when leaning forward.
Spondylolisthesis
Slippage of one vertebra over another — like two stacked bricks shifting. Degenerative or due to a stress fracture.
Vertebral Fractures
Compression fractures from osteoporosis or trauma. The vertebra "collapses like a wet sugar cube" — often under-diagnosed.
Cervical Spine Conditions
Cervical Disc Herniation
Disc protrusion compressing a cervical nerve or the spinal cord. Arm pain, tingling in the fingers, or loss of dexterity.
Cervical Myelopathy
Chronic spinal cord compression from arthritis. "Stiff" legs, clumsy hands, unsteady gait — a relative surgical emergency.
Cervicobrachial Neuralgia
The "sciatica of the arm" — pain radiating from the neck into the shoulder and fingers, often waking the patient at night.
SFCR Patient Information Sheets
The French Spine Surgery Society (SFCR) publishes patient information sheets validated by medical experts. These sheets are available in French.
